Deck the halls with Buddy Holly
Fa la la la la la la la la
With the Crickets we’ll be jolly
Fa la la la la la la la la
Go to Clovis, make a single
Fa la la la la la la la la
Hear the juke box coin slots jingle
Fa la la la la la la la la

Hit the charts and keep on climbing
Fa la la la la la la la la
Give them all some snaps and signing
Fa la la la la la la la la
All this stage-work, fans a-screaming
Fa la la la la la la la la
Keep the rock and roll light gleaming.
Fa la la la la la la la la

All is gone in page of history
Fa la la la la la la la la
Why and how is still a mystery
Fa la la la la la la la la
All we know is though we’re sorry
Fa la la la la la la la la
We’ll still rejoice in our own Holly
Fa la la la la la la la la

His records are now more popular than during his lifetime. Fans scour the internet and conventions for scraps of information, photographs, autographs and recordings. On one track, “True Love Ways”, a studio intro is preserved. It goes ---

voice 1: we’re rollin’
Buddy: okay
voice 2: Quiet, boys! ………………………This is That Single Word

That Single Word

A toddler stands and falls and stands,
Holding out his little hands,
Determination on his face,
His first step ever in this place!

The boy is nervous walking there,
Holding momma’s hand in fear,
As kiddies do when starting out
His first school day without a doubt.

The youngster with his brothers there,
All shy yet keen to show his flair,
But although his bow’s been greased
His flair for stagecraft’s been released!

A youth is running down the street
All his pals so keen to meet.
He plans the games and leads them on.
His first engagement as a don!

And now the teenage years have found
A new experience to confound
And with it yes, a heart to bring,
The first to wear his high school ring!

And music has him in its thrall.
Many not surprised at all.
Then one day the tape’s rewound
To reveal his first sung sound.

Come the summer ’57,
Young man now in seventh heaven.
Here at last his dream is done,
His first disc is number one!

Where the times will take him then,
Everywhere and back again.
In classic moment of first sight
His heart is stolen out one night.

Poignant times that live in shame,
When he was revelling in his fame.
Was sacrificed, his silvern tones,
In snow and ice upon his bones.

Though still upon the air is heard
The utterance of a single word.
Entombed, enshrined and treasured still,
That single word will always thrill.
